Is it me, or do Tesco seem to cover almost every service these days? They've got supermarkets, insurance, travel shop, finance, opticians, broadband and phone packages, photo shop, flower delivery, comparison tools and even legal advice! Well to add their popularity and ever growing resume of services, Tesco have recently launched their new Talk Wi-Fi Service.
It works on the same principle as Skype, just on your mobile. If your handset has built-in Wi-Fi and providing you're in range of a hotstop, you can make your calls over the internet, rather than via your mobile phone network.
There is also the option of signing up to a monthly package between £2 and £6, where you will receive free off peak, daytime or international calls. The service promises to be substantially cheaper than using your mobile phone network and calls and texts between Talk Wi-Fi customers are free.
It sounds good to me. And these days, who doesn't want to save money? It seems easy to set up. Simply send a text quoting 'talk' to 86688 and you will receive a link where you can download the application to your phone.
So far, so good, however one can question the quality of the phone call and the reliability of the application and service. So if you're already using Tesco's Wi-Fi service, leave a comment and let us know what you think of it.

‘m using this service in Australia on a Nokia E51 – it is a great service and if there was more hotspots it would be perfect. At the moment it is for home, family places , work places and free Wifi areas. The calls are very clear and cheap as chips when calling the UK or USA ,wifi mobile to any mobile or landline – 1 cent per min. We alsop like the topup and monitoring of accounts – very easy. All0in-all this is a great new capability, just neede more mobile phones for it to work on.
