Droid X or Droid 2 Rumoured Release with a Leaked Advert

Leaked commercials of the new mysterious Motorola Smartphone Droid , Droid X (or Xtreme depending on who you talk to) have surfaced. The gadget world began to get excited about Motorola's latest iPhone rivals when what was said to be Verizon’s internal documentation, emerged with details of an up-and-coming handset called the Droid X.

Since then a cluster of gadget sites have claimed to have leaked, and some case blurry photos of the handsets.

Rumour has it they yield a 4.3-inch screen, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, HDMI out, HD video recording, Android 2.1 and a new version of Motoblur.

Things have gotten a little complicated with Chinese whispers and so-called leaked photos of one 'super-secret handset' or another. There is certainly a new Motorola Android Smartphone on the horizon and if the gossip is right, the two handsets will be fairly similar with the Droid 2 being equipped with a keyboard and the Droid X keyboard-less.

In case the rumoured specs weren't enough to get you excited, the Sci-Fi themed advertisement script speaks of 'EyeCon app' an application that will apparently come pre-loaded on the phone and let you access and control media on your home network and confirms the 1GHz processor.

Successors of the Motorola Droid, both handsets (both not yet officially announced) are rumoured to be unveiled next month late June/July. When they do start to appear in stores it seems they will make a big impact on the Smartphone market. Following on from the Droid, it looks like Motorola have pulled out all the stops on these new handsets (every aspect except secrecy that is!)

  • This bad boy has a TI OMAP 3630 w/ PowerVR SGX530… no wonder its so fast!! I’m liking the nice screen. Wish it was Super AMOLED, though.

Not the droid 2 btw… Droid 2 has a physical keyboard

  • Does anybody know whether these will be available in the UK?

  • Randy, it can’t be Super AMOLED, because that is Samsung’s tech, and they’ve got the patent for it for 18 months.
Don’t worry, there’ll be something better out by then anyway.
And Matt, I wish I knew D: I’m due a phone uprade from my (now a “dumb” smartphone) G1 in August!

  • I technically can’t delay for this smart phone, just two days remaining and I just wish I can get my hands on one,. I have been reading a lot about the Android 2.2 update which will come in August, simply another purpose to be thrilled about this great phone. Motorola and Verizon say they will certainly update the phone to Android 2.2 “late summer.” It will certainly be an over-the-air update. But out-of-the box on its July 15 launch it will probably have Android 2.1.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
