Those of you who have joined the iOS 4 beta will probably be so involved in the new features that you may not have noticed that there’s a virtual version of your favourite book awaiting you.
Some clever tipsters via Engadget have said that they have received notifications encouraging them to download the new iBooks app – Apple’s latest app that looks to change the way we read books.
Apparently you’ll only be able to grab the new app via your desktop or laptop, whilst those pesky Wi-Fi gremlins are in place.
According to Apple, the iPad has cornered 22% of the eBook sales market and they’re still not happy with that. In an effort to increase their market share they are making the iPad app iBook available to all iPhone and iPod touch users.
You’ll be getting the same note-taking, same bookmarking — same everything — just on a smaller screen, and at no extra charge. Users will be able to purchase a book on one device and then consume it across the full range of iDevices, with bookmarks and progress getting synced across all devices.
So if you’re part of the beta, give us a shout and let us know whether you have got your very own personal book shop and what you think of it…

is this like the apples version of the PDF with better graphics or something totaly extraordinary? IMO, nothing can ever replace a REAL book. Take the Nintendo DS books for example. People realised eventually what crap it is.
iBooks is the app I’ve been most excited about since I began testing iOS4. Of course, I have not yet received my notification despite having left iTunes more-or-less open since the keynote. If they’re rolling it out at all, I’m guessing the rollout hasn’t gone very far.
