Samsung has taken a little swipe at Apple today by saying that they think that their AMOLED screen technology is superior to Apple’s new IPS LCD screen, which will be featured in the new iPhone 4.
According to a Samsung they believe that Apple’s high-res Retina display on the iPhone 4 only offers a slight improvement in sharpness over its own Galaxy S Super AMOLED screen – but more importantly uses a whopping 30% more power.
They also think the Samsung screen technology can produce better viewing angles and contrasts, concluding that “structurally, IPS LCD technology cannot catch up AMOLED display technology.”
Apple iPhone 4’s Retina display offers 960×640 resolution while the Samsung’s Galaxy offers 800×480 – so Apple’s new screen is slightly better but consumes a lot more power.
But Steve Jobs doesn’t see it like that and recently said “You can’t make an OLED display with this type of resolution right now. Retina display is going to set the standard for displays for the next several years. We don’t think anybody’s going to come close.”
Who do you think is the worthy winner? Apple or Samsung? Would you buy the iPhone 4 or the Samsung Galaxy S? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think…

Samsung all the way. Given the choice I’d rather have a bigger screen and better battery life than a smaller, slightly sharper screen. Plus Android’s just plain better than Apple’s OS.
I’d rather just have a phone you can pick up and talk.
@Burner I rather have talk and pick you up ;) be smart(phone) call me…..
Or do you rather touch me with your touch … Oh no sorry you have a regular phone !
Lame joke awards 2010!!!
Both are great screen technologies, but i do prefer amoled over other screen types. Amoled is still new tech, with Samsung being the largest player making it. With time, oled will become an all around great screen, something the super amoled screens are a great leap forward.
Shoot, That Samsung is like a leech,, Wanted to buy the Iphone 4 now I totally have made my decision. YES! Samsung all the way… ..LOL.
Slightly better sharpness?
800×460=368,000px @ 4 inch
960×640=614,400px @ 3,7 inch
Am I missing something here?
Well on terms of quality Samsung is ahead. Price.. Samsung at least 30% cheaper. The only thing going for Apple is its Brand value…
what a total copy of the apple iphone, samsung probably will give a apple a run for its money but nothing beats the real thing
Agree to that, it’s as obvious as daylight..samsung tried to copy apple with the Galaxy s line it’s rediculius. Played with one today at the AT&T store and was blown away by how similar it could look and some things they took from apple. Shot various camera pictures with both on high lest brightness and every shot the iPhone 4 pics looked clearly sharper and displayed way better colors. It’s just crazy even till this day how amazing apples retina display looks, it’s the complete total package. Displays colors ACCURATELY, one thing that I noticed about the samoled. Ran papertoss on both devices and the captivate displayed the colors way to saturated, almost hurts your eyes at how saturated the colors look. Look way to pasty. Both phones are awesome but it doesn’t quiet compare to the retina yet. As Steve jobs said!! Nothing can yet!! Hahaha!!
I don’t give a crap about the stats, yes they are important. What matters in the end is how it looks like when you have it in your palm. I have had both in my palm. Retina display is no biggie. Not a lot of difference (my sis has the iphone4 and I’ve played with it) in terms of feel with my iphone 3gs (now a lot of people will stop me here, but this is my point of view and I’ve had all versions of iphones since the first). I also have a friend with the galaxy s… Screen is super bright, colors are vivid (retina looks washed out compared to it) and the screen is bigger than iphone4. Samsung wins this round.
