Apple iOS 4: New Features include Multi-tasking, iBooks, Folders and More…

With a release date set for June 21st for the new Apple operating system, the iOS 4, what features will it include?

Well it is expected to include over 100 new features. Most of these can already be found on your standard iPhone, however there are some which are worthy of a shout out.

Multi-tasking

We already talked about multitasking in our previous iPhone 4 article. Multitasking on the iPhone 4 will work by tapping the home button a few times (as demoed by Mr Jobs). A dock shows up which allows you to scroll through applications, switch and also continue where you left off. Now Steve did discuss that although this has been done on other competitor’s smartphones, it has taken them longer because they wanted to get it right first time. Well, Mr Jobs we’ll have to compare and see about that!

iBooks

Another interesting feature which Apple will be including in their new OS is iBooks for the iPhone. iBooks is capable of syncing with your iPad which will allow you to buy books, annotations and bookmarks. With the iPhone 4’s high resolution screen it will definitely making reading crystal clear. Native support for PDFs will be handy as well. Good news also for all your iPad books as they will work on the iPhone 4 as well. No separate download or separate book.

Folders

On my current iPhone I often find it difficult to find my vast array apps installed on it. Folders is a welcome addition as it will allow you to drag application icons on the screen folders so I can have one for Games, Work etc…

There are a whole load of other features which will be included in the new iOS, including an improved email system and much more…

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
