HP’s CEO Announces their Commitment to the Smartphone Market

Hewlett Packard having been sending some mixed messages about their commitment to the smartphones recently.

Their CEO recently told investors that they “didn’t buy Palm to be in smartphone business” and he went on to say that they “wouldn’t be spending billions of dollars trying to go into the smart phone business”.

He has since walked the tight rope back stipulating that they felt that webOS will be the backbone of many of HP’s form factor devices.

Confused ? We are. It’s not ridiculous to throw cold water on the smartphone market as it is getting so competitive and expensive – so was this HP posturing or are they not committed to taking on the iPhone and Android?

Recently HP announced that they were going to cut 9,000 jobs as part of an enterprise services restructuring. However, the company is planning to add 6,000 jobs in other areas, so we can expect to see radical changes in their enterprise and consumer divisions the next few months?

So what do you think of the mix messages coming from HP? Buying Palm for over a billion and their corporate restructuring, which will see 9,000 job losses. Have your say below…
