Forget the iPad, I do want an I-Fairy

There’s an old stereotype that paints the quintessential geek as a spotty nobody, with trousers up to their eyebrows, an overbite bigger than his terabyte and glasses like coke bottle bottoms, doomed to never find love with a real woman and having to settle for a robot. Well, we here all know that geeks are the hottest men on Earth, and often have the very best girlfriends. But if you still want a robot involved in your wedding ceremony, then look no further than the I-Fairy.

Instead of some stuff yold minister, when Japanese couple Satoko Inoue and Tomohiro Shibata got hitched this month they had their wedding performed by a chunk of metal with plastic pigtails, a floral tiara and 100V DC flowing through its veins. They were pronounced man and wife by a high pitched Darlek whose eyes lit up as the groom kissed the bride. Yup, Japan had the very first robot wedding.

Well, it’s unique I’ll give them that! Not entirely sure how official it would be, but in Japanese weddings the ceremony is mainly a front considering the paperwork can be processed months earlier. And at £47,000 per unit the I-Fairy adds a hefty sum to the already astronomical price of the modern wedding. Lets hope that by the time I get married you can rent one for a fraction of the price. Or failing that we’re off to Las Vegas.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
