Buy an iPad Copy from China for Only $105: Who Needs the Real iPad?

We all know that today was the official release of the UK and international iPad.

As people queued up outside their local Apple store from the early hours of the morning (some even camped outside yesterday), it would seem that there are still some people who haven’t succumbed to the Apple iPad’s charm.

Why? Well, maybe it is due to the hefty price tag or even the iPad’s lack of flash support? If you are one of those people reluctant on parting with your cash on an Apple iPad then look no further as China have created their very own iPad or should we say iPed, which cost a measly $105 and what is even better, comes packed with Google’s open source platform, Android.

While it is slightly heavier than the iPad, the device bears an uncanny resemblance to the Apple tablet and like the iPad, it is a multi-media device.

So where can you get this cheaper and Android enabled iPad?  According to this TBS news report, the iPed is on sale in Shenzhen, China, which is ironically the location of the largest Shenzhen is the location of the largest plant, where the iPhone and the iPad are manufactured.

I know there are likely to be a fair few of you that will be wanting this copy even though it is completely unethical but what the hey!  There is no news on when it is going to hit the UK but we’ll keep you posted.

Have you bought an Apple iPad today or are you the minority that hasn’t given into the hype?  Would you buy the iPed?  Leave us a comment and let us know what you think?

  • I don’t know what all the hype was about the original Apple product, so I don’t really care that knock-off artists are doing this version. I do bet that this version, though, is probably a better fit for people like me who like lots of hands-on and GUI-minimal control over their computer. I’d buy it sooner than the real thing if I had a use for it.

  • I won one in a contest, and it’s pretty cool, does lots of things, surfs sites blazingly fast, though its limited & like a big iPhone. I tried to log in my store admin, and I get the iPhone interface, so I am unable to use it as a true PC & now find I am unable to use it to run my business on a trip; i have to go buy a laptop.

However, I use it for other things like simple surfing, though for trying to find plane tickets, etc, it was more cumbersome due to the screen limits. There are some great games, and the restaurant locater is pretty slick. It fills the gap between the iPhone and a laptop, thought if you need to travel for business, get a laptop.

  • I think I’m missing something. no phone , no camera, my car has a GPS that I can use while driving, I have a TV at home.seems like an expensive way to store photos and play games

  • I would find it hard to justify paying the extra money for the iPad especially as it won’t display Flash websites.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
