Acer Ebook Reader: An Amazon Kindle Rival?

Acer have announced that they have developed an e-book reader that will come packed with the LumiRead, a 6-inch E Ink screen similar to the Kindle 2.

As well as this it will also come with a full QWERTY keyboard and 2GB of flash memory to allow you to store up to 1500 books. However, if you’re book addiction exceeds the 1500 book limit then you can expand the memory using the microSD slot or use Acer’s clear.fi system to move your ebooks from one Acer device to the other.

No pricing details have been announced yet but book deals have been made with Barnes and Noble as well a being in talks with other book suppliers across Europe. With this in mind we should expect a release date shortly.

Do you think this could be a Kindle rival or is this just another ebook reader which doesn’t have enough punch to push Kindle out of the marketplace? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think…

  • It seems pretty similar to the kindle. If you thinking of buying an ebooks reader you’ll probably just buy the kindle because it’s more popular. Other ebooks readers like the Novel ereader and the ipad offer a host of other features like web browsing on a android os. If it’s just trying to be a kindle it wont compete.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
