British refuse collectors will be getting Blackberrys smartphones as part of their job equipment pack.
Biffa, the private garbage collection firm who is responsible for cleaning up the mess of us Brits around the UK has agreed a 1.7 million deal with Vodafone to purchase 1,500 Blackberry handsets along with dongles and 3G datacards for their refuse collectors.
So what will this investment be used for? Well, Biffa claims that these will be used for drivers to download maps, collect data from customers, liaise with the head office and take photographic evidence where necessary. However, it does make you a little suspicious as Biffa could be getting a little ‘Big Brother’ with their bin men especially as RIM phones have the ability to track truck locations.
What do you think of Biffa’s investment? Do you think it is another attempt at companies keeping tabs on their employees? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think…
