You’d think that since we’re in May now, I’d be squeeing over the lovely things that are slowly starting to emerge from the gadget womb to herald the endless sunny days of a glorious summer.
Well, I live in England, and I know that it will rain all summer. So instead I bring you the Lighted Safety Umbrella.
A neon yellow/ green umbrella which is made of reflective 3M material and also incorporates a “6V” Krypton bulb, which shines out a 6′ circle of light. The effect of this is threefold. Firstly, you’re kept nice and dry from the lashings of rain. Secondly, you can see where you’re going if you’re using it at night or in particularly grimy weather. And thirdly you can be seen from over 1/4 of a mile away, meaning that you’re less likely to be the innocent victim of a road crash.
The Lighted Safety Umbrella is also tested to withstand strong winds, and the makers claim it’s practically unbreakable during normal use. So actually you could use it for a summer day on the beach, to keep you sheltered from the gusts coming off the sea. And you could even stay out there all night using the integrated light as a reading lamp, or a wind proof alternative to candles for that romantic picnic. Aww.
But really though, it’s gonna p**s it down all summer.
If you want to be seen, be safe, then the Lighted Safety Umbrella can be bought for $29.95 from First Street. And yes, it comes with a spare bulb!
