Sony PS3 Price Cut in US – Is This a Little Too Late?

Sony has decided to cut prices of its PS3 games console by 17% in a effort to boost the sales in the US market which would mean that $100 will be taken off so that the PS3 will cost $500 (£249). This is because its competitors the Wii aand Xbox have been outselling the PS3 several times over.

I can’t help thinking that no amount of price cutting will help boost PS3 sales as they ruined their chances by launching the PS3 so late on letting the Wii and Xbox tap into the games market leaving very little room for them to overtake?

  • I would agree that this is a little to late. They have already been out and to be honest I have not heard of a whole lot of good things about the system. They should have done this a long time ago.

  • There are three arguments, you either rush and release a faulty system like the Xbox (which will now cost them millions), or you release a fantastic system but way to expensive or release a fun console for minimal cost.

It seems that the Wii has won its affordable and fun.

I do feel the PS3 will reduce its price and will start selling because its a lot of kit for your money. Once the Xbox has a HD DVD drive and wireless enabled it will compare to the PS3 but we can’t until then.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
