Google Street View UK: Could This be a Service for Burglars?

It was announced last week that Google Street View would cover 96% of all roads, streets and avenues across the UK, however a recent survey has revealed that 24% of people polled thought that Street View was a merely 'service for burglars'.

In light of people’s concerns, Thames Valley Police spokesperson told the Telegraph that there was no evidence to suggest that the service was the cause of burglaries.

As well as this Google has stated that they take privacy concerns very seriously and if someone has extreme concerns then they are able to ask for the image to be removed permanently or blurred.

Google Street View has proved to be immensely popular in the UK over the last year, proving to be beneficial tool for tourists and other users so I think we need to embrace Google Street View as a tool for exploration rather than an invasion of our privacy and 'service for burglars'

  • Street View is creating a valuable ‘Historical Picture Log’ If you’re pictured in it, you become part of that history in the making.

Google Street View is a fantastic piece of New Technology allowing ‘Real Estate Agents’ to give a more accurate description of the area, and for the potential client to search from the comfort of their armchair.

Google Street View is also creating a most valuable ‘Historical Picture Log’ that might prove in the course of time to be invaluable to researchers and Legal proofs etc.

Would you sooner discover before you buy a property if there were any bad aspects to the area in question rather than find out after you have bought the property?

What utter nonsense. Street view is of no use whatoever to burglars, its not a live service. I would suggest the 24% polled who think it is don’t have the first clue how the service functions.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
