Augmented Identity Apps could give us Terminator-like Eyes

We might all dream about the possibility but we all know that it is not humanly possible for us to have Terminator like eyes which allow us to have access to data through just seeing; however there is hope in the future that technology could give us a helping hand to achieve this.

Also known as Augmented Reality, imagine the possibility of being able to stare at a building and a caption reads when it was built or being able to stare at a person and it shows you their name, age as well as other details?

Well, augmented reality fans could see this hope turn in reality if Swedish company Astonishing Tribe has anything to do with it. The company is experimenting on "augmented identification" on smartphones to identify people just by snapping a photo of them. Check out the video below as it shows off how the smartphone app Recognizr actually works.

Although this is just a concept, how far off are we from reality? Well, this app has only been tested on a handful of profiles on an Android phone and is still in its development stage, so I can't see this hitting the markets very soon but this type of technology could definitely be the future to feed our data hungry world.

I don't know about you but I find this technology a little scary. Imagine a world where nothing is private? What do you think? Do you think augmented reality technology like this is a good or bad thing? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think?

  • This is really great. Complete social networking solution in the mobile. These are the only reasons facebook have more than 1 million users who access facebook from mobile.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
