Apple's iTunes Music Store has sold its 10 billionth song on Wednesday afternoon after seven years in the digital music download market.

Check out this timeline below on how the music giants have progressed since they first opened their store in April 2003:

Apple iTunes Music Download Timeline

After taking Apple less than 2 years to achieve its next 5 billionth download, just after 4:30 p.m EST yesterday, Apple has definitely reached a music download milestone.

To celebrate their achievement Apple held a promotion which awarded $10,000 iTunes gift card to the person who downloaded the 10 billionth song. I wonder which lucky person that was?

As well as this, the 10 billionth song download couldn't have come at a better time as yesterday was also the 55th birthday of Steve Jobs.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
