MWC 2010: HTC Unveils Three Phones- Desire, Legend and HD Mini

Microsoft’s announcement of Windows 7 for Mobiles may have stolen the limelight a bit at this year’s Mobile World Congress, but that’s only one product; HTC has bowled a hat-trick.

The Taiwanese handset manufacturer has released three new phones at the show: the Desire, Legend and HD Mini. Yes the first sounds like a perfume, the second a KFC burger and the third a smurf’s camcorder, but are they any good as mobiles?

Both the Desire and Legend are Android phones, with the poor HD Mini behind the times on WinMo 6.5. Not only does that rule it out of the desirable stakes, the HD Mini isn’t exactly high-definition as its name suggests, with a touch screen res of a very average 320 X 480.

It does however have a 5 megapixel camera, 600MHz Qualcomm processor and 3.2 inch touchscreen.

The Legend on the other hand does live up to its name a bit more, with 3.2-inch AMOLED capacitive touch-screen display within a sleek looking aluminum unibody exterior. It looks nice. Really nice.

While also sporting a 320 X 480 resolution, the Legend doesn’t have “HD” in its name, so I have no qualms about this.

It is powered by a 600MHz Qualcomm processor and has both wi-fi, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity.

Entertainment-wise, the Legend has a decent 5 megapixel camera and 3.5mm headphone jack. Not bad, but perhaps not the stuff of legends and warriors.

The HTC Desire also makes quite an effort in living up to its name, with a large 3.7-inch touch-screen at a sharp 800 x 480.

It is powered by a a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and for all intensive purposes is basically a Google Nexus One without the Nexus One branding.

It does differ though in using HTC’s own Sense user interface, has Flash 10.1 and is equipped with an optical sensor in lieu of a trackball which, let’s face it Google, are being fazed out of PC mice. We don’t want them on a mobile.

We can expect to see all three phones on the high street in April, though no UK carrier has been named.

Has HTC made a legendary effort to flame your desire? Leave us a comment and let us know.

Oooooo. It has Flash 10.1 – and nobody on the planet can download that to their own phone. Nope.

So, uh, are the phone strickly GSM, or is there a CDMA variety, or maybe a “world phone” combo – like the HTC Touch Pro 2 offered by Sprint?

On a related note: Windows 7 Mobile is gonna be crap because you won’t be able to load your own software – you’ll have to get everything from a Microsoft store, like the cursed iPhone.

WTH is the matter with people – why is that tolerated?
