Amazon has just released a free Kindle app for Blackberry devices in the US (unfortunately it's not international just yet), which will give them access to their e-books without using a Kindle device.
You may have already heard of a similar Kindle application being release on the iPhone in March 2009; well the Kindle app for the Blackberry offers the same functionality. Both applications allow users to access the Kindle store and sync bookmarks between Kindle devices, PC and Blackberry or iPhone.
However, Amazon does plan to add more features to the Kindle app for the Blackberry in the future, with rumours that there may be the ability to search and scroll through books.
The online retailer has also suggested that there will be Kindle apps available for Macs and iPads in the not so distant future. However, with speculation afloat that Amazon are going to be releasing a more advanced Kindle reader to compete with the Apple iPad, it is a little surprising that they are aiming to sell Kindle books through the Apple tablet device, especially after Apple ignited a war between Amazon and publishers regarding the pricing of their e-books.
