NASA may have thought it made history by sending the first man to the moon, but everyone is all a-flutter with its latest achievment of sending the first Tweet from space.
"One small step for man," is now overshadowed by the 140 character limited:
“Hello Twitterverse! We r now LIVE tweeting from the International Space Station — the 1st live tweet from Space! :) More soon, send your ?s”
Flight Engineer T.J. Creamer, now potentially better known as “@Astro_TJ” was able to tweet from the International Space Station thanks to a software upgrade rolled out by NASA last week, providing Space Station astronauts with direct web access.
This feat has been described by NASA as "the ultimate wireless connection." O2 take note.
Previously, Tweets from the Space Station were emailed to earth and later posted to the micro-blogging site by ground-base staff.
While the first Tweet from space is not exactly earth-shattering, subsequent ISS Tweets reveal what it's like working and living in space, as @Astro_TJ has continued Tweeting:
"Am sleeping in Node2, Starboard quarters, & yes Soichi is in the JPM now, but will move to Node2 when we move the treadmill to Node3."
"Hey folks, busy day with payloads, exercise, talking with some students in CA, and trying to troubleshoot the toilet. Will tweet more 2nite."
"Pretty busy day 2day, so won’t get 2 tweet until tonight. All afternoon am working on our Oxygen Regeneration & our Water Suppy Systems."
@Astro_TJ's has become a bit of a super star in the Twitter universe with his Twitter followers rocketing from 5,000 pre space Tweeting, to over 28,000.
