Twitter Made Easy for Newcomers by Creating Facebook-Like Features

A lot people I speak to have a Twitter account but only a small minority actually use it regularly.

Well, it would seem that Twitter may have twitched onto the problem of poor returning users by announcing that they will have new tools that are aimed at making it easier for Twitter newcomers to enjoy the micro-blogging site.

So what will some of these proposed changes be? Twitter says it will be making it easier for newbies to the site by ‘offering the power of suggestion’, something similar to what Facebook are doing at the moment. This will include some of the following:

Naming Challenges This will include finding accounts to follow that interest them. For example, if a new user on twitter selects ‘interests’, then Twitter will show the users accounts that relate to that interest.

Address Books Twitter will help users find friends and colleagues by checking their address books.

Now this doesn’t sound particularly revolutionary as we have seen this done before on other social networking and micro blogging sites, however it should hopefully make it a lot easier for all those Twitter newcomers and may open it up towards mainstream users.

I personally think the look of the site needs to change to make it more user friendly but we will just have to wait and see what changes Twitter has in store for the future.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
