Happy New Year!

So what have you decided to give up in 2010? Or even do more of, since evidence seems to suggest that phrasing your new years resolution in a positive way gives you a great chance of success. This year I’m resolving to pass my driving test. You know, maybe.

If your resolution is a bit more typical, then maybe a brand new gadget will help you stay on track. Have a look at some of these ideas to keep you on the straight and narrow this year. Say it with me now:

In 2010, I resolve to…

Save more money.

Ok, ok, so spending cash on a gadget seems a little wacky but you gotta spend money to make money as the saying goes. Put a positive slant on your saving with this nifty little gadget, the Coin Saving Jar. All the copper that builds up in your purse could actually net you a huge return if you bothered to save it all (a year of saving change bought me a full set of bed linen when I moved into my new flat last year). Keep a track of them with the Coin Saving Jar, whih counts how much is in there, meaning you can actually see your saving and will therefore be motivated to carry on doing it.

Give up smoking

One the boyfriend is currently trying to do here. And while the Electronic Cigarette isn’t exactly designed to stop you smoking, it’s better for you that the million ‘just one last one’s if you crack. It feels, tastes and even looks like a normal cigarette, but doesn’t include any of the noxious chemicals of a real one. And since it works by having a refillable chamber of pure liquid nicotine then you get the buzz without the health risks should will power fail you for a moment.

Lose weight

Joining a gym is expensive and lets face it, you know you won’t still be going come February. And fitness DVDs are depressing (I know I own a few). But with the Wii Fit Plus you can customise a fitness routine with a bit more fun to it- and you can even use it with your pets too should your kitty be looking a little like the mog-father. And if you get bored of yogalates then the Wii has a range of games which also use the balance board too, so you can be exercising without knowing it.

Save the planet

I’ve been running my heating a lot recently (until I got a Slanket for Christmas anyway!) because my flat is like living in an ice cube. But I have no clue what that means in terms of electricity usage or cost to me. With a gadget like the Watson Home Energy Meter, you can see exactly what you’re using and how much it’s costing you, and it’ll also tell you if you’re electricity usage is high (it’ll glow red) or low (it’ll glow blue). So you can see how turning off lights or not leaving things on standby really effects the environment, and your wallet!

Train my brain

Think of a time when you’re not really doing anything which you could easily fill up with a little educational activity. Get the noggin back to the standard it used to be, which will hopefully have the knock on effect of you becoming smarter and more mentally agile which can only be a good thing. For some reason though, when asked about five minutes to exercise the grey matter, instead of the usual answer of just before you go to sleep or when you’re letting your dinner settle, some bright spark though of sitting on the loo and invented Suduku Toilet Roll. Now if only someone would invent a pen that works on loo paper…

Take more photos

An interesting one from a friend this resolution. Why go depriving yourself of something nice when you can take one photo a day every day and build up a collection to look back on and talk about on New Years Eve 2010? And what better way to display your photos than on a Elonex 7″ Digital Photo Frame. I got bought one for Christmas, and it’s so simple – stick the photos on a memory card and voila, away you go.

Good luck with all your goals for 2010. Got anymore helpful gadgets to share? Stick them in the comments and I might even feature them throughout the year.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
