If you're new year's resolution isn't to lose weight or move house, but is a potentially more realistic: to get a new mobile, here's potential motivation to upgrade to a brand spanking new iPhone in the new year. Vodafone is the latest major carrier in the UK to sell Apple's popular handset on 14 January 2010.
Vodafone will start its iPhone tariffs at £30 a month for 24 months, plus additional handset charges which range from £59 for the iPhone 3G 8GB, to £239 for the snazzier 3GS 32GB.
This pits Vodafone's rates competitively well against Orange and O2 who have cheapest plans of £34.26 and £29.36 respectively, for 24 months.
Tesco is still the bargain plan winner, offering the iPhone on a lowest £20 contract for 12 months.
Vodafone will also allow customers to use their iPhones as a modem for an added charge starting at £5 to download 500MB.
O2's exclusive UK iPhone retailer status ended in November this year, prompting other networks to take a bite out of Apple's popularity.
Guy Laurence, head of Vodafone's UK business, is confident that the operator could woo customers with its network quality.
"We started preparing our network over a year ago so that iPhone customers will really feel the advantage of being with Vodafone," he said.
"We will offer an outstanding iPhone experience wherever our customers live, work and travel, delivering speed and reliability - something our customers have told us they really value."
O2 has had significant problems with its London network recently, adding fuel to other networks' claims that they can provide a better service for customers.
Vodafone was the largest mobile operator in the UK until 2006 when O2 surpassed it, and continued its market stranglehold thanks to its exclusive deal with Apple a year later.
