Recent research has reported that the average actual broadband speed reaches just 49 per cent of what the speeds providers claimed in their deals and advertising to be ‘up to 8Mb’ and even more surprisingly Ofcom have claimed that the actual average speed that these companies are providing for users is only 3.6Mb. This means that just because your broadband or mobile broadband works, it doesn’t always mean you’re getting what you’re paying for, or even value for money.
When purchasing your broadband or mobile broadband not only can you compare broadband prices but also check and compare the speed offered by providers as some offer a lot better and consistent broadband speed than others.
However, there are things that affect your home broadband speed, like the quality and length of line between the exchange and your house; if the phone extension wire in your house is substandard; the quality of your laptop or pc; or even the time of day.
If you think you're not getting the speed you're paying for there are many ways to check your line on the internet. If you are not satisfied then you can take action making sure that all areas that could affect your broadband speed are looked at before you make a complaint to your provider.
