Top 10 XBox 360 Console Games for Christmas 2009

00The top Christmas games for the XBox 360. These choices are based on the chart positions of XBox games as of the week commencing Monday 7th December 2009. Although they may rise and fall I doubt there’ll be much in the way of change – although feel free to pitch in your recommendations in the comments!

01 – Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2

Set to break video games sales records, Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 is back, pitting Russia against America and the allied nations, who’ve created elite task force 141 to deal with the problem. A first person shooter, incorporating a solo campaign, plus multi player Special Ops mode as well as online play. If you enjoy killing things and haven’t got bored of the war games yet (or by the sounds of it, even if you have!) then you’ll love this one.

12 – Assassins Creed 2

Following on from the massive success of it’s predecessor, Assassins Creed 2 picks up where the last one left off, this time allow you to romp open world style through 15th century renaissance Italy. A lot of the complaints from the first game have been addressed, especially the fluidity of movement. Visually it’s spectacular and although people have complained the plot is a little convoluted, when it’s looks so pretty and plays so well who cares?

23 – FIFA 10

Football games aren’t going away, and unfortunately it’s a genre I know nothing about, what with being in possession of ovaries. It includes both the usual modes, career and manager. The game play is said to have been much improved meaning that you can more sophisticatedly control the ball and make better use of your pitch space. But let face it- you’re either going to be a Fifa fan, or a Pro Evo fan, and nothing I can say will convince you to go for one over the other!

34 – Forza Motorsport 3

With 400 fully customised cars, more than 100 incredibly scenic tracks, and more than 200 different events, including Circuit, Oval, Drag, Drift and Timed Events, you could probably keep playing this game from now until next Christmas. When they’ll no doubt release another sequel! The best bit for me is that the games caters to your ability, so it’s even a good game for newcomers.

45 – Left 4 Dead 2

This is the game I want this year. The original Left 4 Dead was a perfect length with a brilliant online mode, both of which has been repeated in the sequel. New survivors, new stories, and best of all, a new Melee aspect, which allows you to behead zombies with an axe, a machete and even an electric guitar!

56 – Grand Theft Auto Episodes : Liberty City

Two games in one box- The Ballard of Gay Tony, and The Lost And Damned. The first pits family and friends with you playing a Luis Lopez, nightclub assistant and hoodlum. The latter lets you play a Johnny, a biker gang member in the middle of a bitter turf war between rival gangs. Enjoy crashing cars, a silly amount of blood and the general debauchery of the GTA universe.

67 – WWE: Smackdown Vs Raw 2010

Create not only your Superstar wrestler (which you can then share online) but the entire story line. And you can design alternate costumes too, as well as write the scripts and choose the camera angles. Oh wait, sorry you’re probably wanting to know about the wrestling – the popular story-based mode returns with key updates and new storylines, including a first-ever Divas storyline as well as the Create-A-Superstar storyline.

78 – Borderlands

Borderlands calls itself a first person role play shooter. I’m not quite sure what the distinction is, but four of you can join together in co-op play searching for the mysterious Alien Vault on harsh frontier planet Pandora. The customisation opportunities are great with an immense number of weapons and items to choose from. Plus it the slightly anime, comic book style is a nice change from the endless browns of most first person shooters.

89 – Need For Speed : Shift

NFS : Shift tries to recreate a truly realistic experience, including a three-dimensional HUD that mimics driver head movement, inertia and G-forces. Plus, when you crash (and you will crash) the video and audio effects combine to disorientate the player. The enhanced AI also makes it feel like you’re driving against real people, who adapt to your skill level.

910 – DJ Hero

Building on the success of the Hero franchise, DJ Hero includes a whole new controller, a turn table with buttons similar to the guitar allowing you to ‘scratch’ the turn table, plus sliders to do all that fancy fading. The game features both online and offline mode, and a can be used in co-op with both another turntable and your regular guitar. Look out for Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero too.
