I’ve noticed something recently. Hands up if you have a freestanding floor lamp which is about five foot tall, and consists of a conical up lighter on a silver pole with a heavy circular base. Damn near everyone I know owns one (granted most of them got them for £2 when Woolworths went out of business last year- me included). I like to be a little less like everyone else and more of a unique person, but it seems that in lighting fixture choice I’m doomed to follow the trend.
Unlike Robert Matysiak who for the past two years has been creating Robolamps. Coloured light bulbs and old bits of pluming supplies make up these truly artistic creations. Each one measures between 15cm and 50cm in height and has it’s own unique name.
Now, you could obviously make your own from whatever random bits of plastic are laying around your house, but in my experience unless you happen to be seriously artistic then they never turn out quite as quirky and cute as the originals.
So what do you do if you want to get your hands on one? Well currently there isn’t an official website but there is a Facebook Group with details about who to email for a quote. For now, enjoy the pictures and discuss which ones you want to use as interesting Christmas decorations (imagine them all with Santa hats…)
