The wait is almost over, the possible iPhone killer from Nokia has started shipping and will be available to buy over the counter in just a few days. The N900 uses the Linux based Maemo 5 software which is great news for application developers as everything is open, it is proven technology and it is fast. To mark the official shipping Nokia has released a cool video about the origins on the N900.
The heart of the N900 is the 600 MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor. You don’t need to worry about the technical details but that is fast for a mobile phone. The result is a mobile phone with a cool user interface that lets you run many applications simultaneously, just like on your desktop.
The N900 is more than a mobile phone, in fact it is more than a smartphone, it s a mobile Internet device allowing online access (via 3G) almost wherever you are. The N900 comes with a 3.5 inch touch-sensitive widescreen display with a 800 × 480 pixel resolution.
The N900 comes with 32 GB of internal storage (enough for up to 7000 MP3 songs or 40 hours of high-quality video) and support for an additional 16 GB of storage with an external microSD card.
The Nokia N900 has a real QWERTY keyboard as well as the onscreen keyboard and it also has full Adobe Flashâ„¢ 9.4 support and 5 megapixel camera.
“The Nokia N900 has generated a lot of interest since its public launch in August, which has been reflected in the device preorders,” says José-Luis Martinez, Vice President, Nseries, Nokia. "What’s exciting is the Maemo software, which takes its cues from the desktop computer and offers a full browsing experience like no other handset. We believe the Nokia N900 will be a very compelling device for people who are passionate about technology."
The Nokia N900 has started shipping Europe, the Middle-East, Russia and North America. It is priced at around 500 Euros which is about £450. Can you also order it from the Nokia Online Store: http://europe.nokia.com/buy-online.
