Did you Buy a Nokia Phone in the Last 6 Months? You Might Need a New Charger

Nokia ChargerNokia has issued a warning to all customers who bought a new Nokia mobile phone or a replacement charger in the last six months. The covers of certain third party chargers can come off and there is the danger of electrical shock. While Nokia isn’t aware of any actual incidents, as a precautionary measure, they will exchange affected chargers free-of-charge.

The affected chargers were manufactured by Nokia’s third party supplier China’s Huizhou BYD Electronics Co., Ltd. It has been discovered that the plastic covers of these chargers can possibly come loose and even fall off. This of course will expose the charger's internal components and if you are silly enough to touch the insides of the live charger with its cover off, while it is plugged in, then you will get an electric shock!

Chargers models AC-3U and AC-3E manufactured by BYD between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009 are affected as is the AC-4U model also manufactured by BYD but between April 13, 2009 and October 25, 2009. Chargers manufactured outside of these dates are not affected.

Nokia have a special website where you can enter your charger’s model number and identification number and see if it needs to be exchanged.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
