Research In Motion (RIM), most commonly known as the mastermind behind Blackberry, has been named the fastest growing company in the world by business magazine Fortune.
The Canada-based Company RIM was put top of the magazines annual chart, with US chipmaker Sigma designs in second and Chinese internet business sohu.com coming in third.
The ratings are based on performance from the last three years on a combination of it’s profits, turnover and investment returns. In RIM’s case that churns out to be an 84% boost in profits, an expansion of 77% in revenue and total return of 45% (now that’s good going). RIM in fact had not features in the list before, but that is because this is the first year companies outside the US have been included.
I actually met RIM’s marketing manager for the UK earlier this year at The Gadget Show: Live, and even though it was totally informal, i was very impressed with how much he and his team knew about the market and what they planned to do. It seems that it may have paid off in the long run.
