Rumour Mill: iTunes 9 to Support Blu-ray, Facebook and Twitter

iTunes 9The Internet has been awash this weekend with rumours about the next big version of iTunes from Apple. September is traditionally the month when Apple update their iPod range as they prepare for the Christmas season. It is rumoured that iTunes 9 will also be announced in September and include support for Blu-ray discs, integration with social networking sites like Facebook and introduce a new way to organize your iPhone apps.

It has almost been a year since iTunes 8 was released at Apple’s September 2008 keynote “Let’s Rock”. So the Apple engineers have had plenty of time to add new features into iTunes.

The break down of the improvements is as follows:

  • Blu-ray drives will soon be incorporated into the iMac range and iTunes 9 will follow suit with support for the optical media.
  • Some kind of support for Facebook, Twitter and Last.fm from within iTunes. It isn’t clear what this exactly means. It could mean that you will be able to Twitter about what music you are listening to or automatically scrobble your favorite songs in Last.fm.
  • iTunes 9 will include the ability to visually arrange and organise your iPhone and iPod touch applications.

As always these are only rumours. These ones come from “pretty a reliable source” according to Boy Genius who originally broke the story. All will be revealed in the next few months.

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
