Call Of Duty For The iPhone….Don’t Get Too Excited!

Activision has released Call Of Duty for the iPhone this week, but don’t get too excited, it’s not what you think and want it to be.picture-3

It’s not another piece of the first person shooter franchise that maybe would of been great. Instead, Activision has released a “companion” app to go along with their popular Call Of Duty: World At War game which tracks your performances along with other things so you can get more out of your game.

The app lets you do a lot of neat things, like follow what friends are up to, look at your stats and see what Treyarch are doing. The app is completely free, which is a good thing of course but you obviously need the game on Xbox 360 or the PS3 for it to make any sense.

So unfortunately you won’t be capping any Nazi Zombies on the move, and this leads to the question of why? Treyarch’s installment of the COD franchise was far from the success of what Infinity Ward had previously with COD 4, but this isn’t the reason they released this app. “Companion” app’s like this add a quirky functionality to a game, and can do a lot to promote future games. So maybe Treyarch are doing Infinity Ward a favour here with so much hype about COD 6 Modern Warfare 2 around at the moment as well as push to improve their game!

We’ll see how well this app does, i think it will do pretty well if your asking me!
