Twitter Shut Down After Denial of Service Attack

If you’ve been wondering why your favourite micro-blogging site hasn’t been letting you share your daily routine with the world, it’s because Twitter has been temporarily taken offline after what the company believes is a co-ordinated attack.twitter

According to the Twitter Blog, the site has been the victim of a Denial of Service Attack, which involved the company’s servers being flooded with data in order to disable them.

Twitter has been down since this morning, but the geographic reach of the site’s downtime is still not clear.

While Twitter has come back online for a lucky few, it is still down for the majority of users including myself, which is unfortunate as I’ve been dying to see everyone’s 160 character thoughts on Twitter being offline.

  • It was ebaumsworld, as fucking usual.

  • It was back up but at 5:30 ,pm it appears to be down again. I think they may have a major virus attack. They may have to start a new site and close this one

  • It was all a bit scary for a while, thought we might have to go back to Facebook!

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
