There was a time when all electronics had to be black to have any sort of credibility. This was way back in the ’90s though, and in a bit of a delayed attempt at bringing its top selling console into the Technicolor world of 2009, Sony have announced that its latest PS3 DualShock 3 controllers will be anything but black.
“Metallic Blue” and “Deep Red” are going to be in this season for gamers in the U.S. where the new controllers are due to be released in October this year.
These new American colours will compliment the black, white and silver controllers already available, and gives you a chance to stand out from the monochrome crowd.
If you’re more interested in standing out from the wired crowd, there’s also the option of the Sony Ericsson Aino which comes with PS3 Remote Play, so you can take calls and blow-up the enemy at the same time. Though, the Aino does only come in black and white…
On the surface of it, the new blue and red controllers may not make a huge practical difference to your upcoming Gran Turismo 5 gaming experience, but you may be surprised at how a splash of blue takes your opponent’s concentration off hitting the apex just right. Granted you can get the same effect by throwing your black handset at their head, but ours is a bit more of a subtle tactic.
There’s no word on whether the splash of red and blue will reach European shores, but we’re hoping one day to be able to use them to lead a group of highly trained soldiers on a mission to take out the Helghast threat. Well you need a red controller for that now, don’t you?

They seem a little to bright to me. plus it is a bit random when no one really cares about the controller
