Finally, Twitter have got round to a little bit of spring cleaning and have got rid of a number of spam accounts- used to follow other Twitter users to direct them to their own websites for the sole purpose of gaining hits.
The ‘Twitter Correction’, currently in top trend spot on Twitter, has seen follower losses of between 10 and 100 followers.
Twitter, currently the fourth biggest social networking site behind Facebook, Bebo and MySpace, have said:
“In particular, those with large followings may see significant changes as we correct for spam accounts and data inconsistencies.”
Many have seemed disappointed at the loss of Twitter followers but the idea of social networking is one of interaction and communication. MySpace fever, however, seems to have well and truly set in, seeing plenty of Twitter egos (Twegos?) damaged this morning.

Hopefully should clear out the amount of noise that was causing the Twitter Search to become close to useless.
