Is O2’s iPhone exclusivity ending?

For the past week and a bit, there have been numerous reports stating that O2 (who are currently the only carrier in the UK that are allowed to sell the iPhone) is coming to the end of it’s exclusivity agreement with Apple.events_keynote20090526.jpg

Mobile Today states that both T-Mobile and Orange are both in talks with Apple about selling the iPhone 3G, however not the 3GS, O2 will remain exclusive to sell that handset. Mobile Today report that the move would come into play in early September if it goes through, as this is when O2’s exclusivity deal will end with Apple.

Mobile Today add that O2 is “furious” with the news and is highly concerned that rival operators may undercut O2’s arguably high pricing, something that sounds good for the UK consumers.

We will keep you posted on developments with this one!

  • That’s great news. I’d really love an iPhone but the lack of tariff choices sucks.

I’m sure when it get’s opened up to other networks the price is bound to come down too.

  • It is great news isn’t it! i’m exactly the same as you, i really want an iPhone but the lack of tariff choices just really puts me off. So if other companies can get in on selling the iPhone i’m sure the high prices will come down, at least i hope!

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
