Dell Accidentally Sells 19 Inch Monitors for £9

Ever made a really bad typo? Welcome to Dell’s world! The computer manufacturer advertised one of its 19-inch monitors for $15 (£9) instead of the more expected $150.dell

The mistake happened in Taiwan, where the government is holding Dell to sell the monitors for the advertised price.

This wouldn’t be too bad if only one or two people got wind of Dell’s unintentional deal, however the mistake was online for a good eight hours shifting 140,000 monitors to 26,000 buyers. Well you can never have too many monitors around the bedroom.

If Dell fails to honour these sales, it will be in violation of Taiwan’s fair trade laws and the government will seek legal recourse.

So far, Dell has gone as far as to apologise for the mistake and will ‘compensate buyers’. Though what this means in practice is still a little vague.

All in all, we’ll be pretty impressed if buyers end up with a brand new 19-inch for the price of lunch.

  • Shame I missed it, a new monitor would be a treat!

  • Especially when you could have had 10 for the price of 1 :)

  • Darn it, what a bargain that would have been! Maybe the UK division of Dell can make the same mistake on 22″ inch monitors because I need one!!

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
