Setanta Sports UK Goes Into Administration

The UK branch of Setanta Sports went into administration yesterday, following a series of financial difficulties. setanta4

Here’s the message the former company posted on their website to it’s customers:

“Setanta Sports Customers from England, Wales, Scotland, Isle of Man and Channel Islands, please be advised that it is with great regret that Setanta GB is no longer trading.”

It is a shame in my opinion, because Setanta Sports were the only company that could really pose a threat to Sky Sports, who at the moment and for a while now have been running away with the market monopoly, and Virgin don’t really concentrate on just a sports package.

As a result of this, around 200 of the 420 jobs will lose their jobs unfortunately. Strangely however, Setanta is still operating in Ireland and overseas as there they have managed to get enough subscriptions, the sole reason behind their cease in the UK.

Sir Robin Miller, Chairman of Setanta concluded:

“Unfortunately, in a difficult and highly competitive market, and despite strenuous efforts by the board and management, it has not been possible to find sufficient additional funds in the time available to ensure its survival”.

do i stop paying into setanta sport if thay are not trading enymore

  • Well i read up on them, and they said they would stop asking for payments immediately. You would be best advised to get in contact with the company yourself and ask!

  • Personally I am not surprised or bothered about them going into administration. Yes some competition with Sky is good but I have heard nothing but complaints about the way they treat customers. Specifically their cancellation policy where they make it extremely difficult to cancel.

  • True, i totally agree with that because i’ve heard all that too!

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
