Google looks set to launch its new Google Voice service very soon after the company reserved 1 million phone numbers in preparation for its official launch.
Google Voice is set to give eBay owned Skype a run for its money as it similarly uses VoIP but with Google’s usual twist of features.
The free service will give you one unified number which can be used to divert calls to all of your different phones.
Your one number will also become your main contact point as people can dial it to reach you via your home line or mobile.
This will make losing your mobile after a night out with the guys much less painless as you’ll still have all your contacts in one place and others will still be able to reach you the next day.
Other enhanced call features includes the ever essential call blocking and screening, receiving voicemail transcripts, converting voice calls to text messages and cut-rate international calling.
Google will also do what it does best and will offer an archive and search function for all of your sent and received SMS messages.
It will also integrate with your Gmail contact list to create a unified address book, so you don’t need to go hunting through emails for the number of that girl at work you’ve been flirting with via email for the last couple of months.
No official date has been stated for the official launch of Google Voice, but for the US at least there can’t be many more sleeps to go.
