Heinz meanz USB cooked beanz

beanzawaveQuestion- who really needs a USB powered humping dog or finger drum kit? Yeah they’re fun, but what purpose do they serve? And more importantly- how do you convince your boss to let you keep them?

Heinz have just unveiled details of a portable USB powered microwave, a gadget I’m sure you’ll agree would be easy to explain away to your boss (or bozz if we follow the Heinz spelling style). ‘Why do I need a USB powered microwave? Why, so I can work through my lunch and make money for the company sir’ (totally not so you can see what happens when you put a biro in there…).

It’s only at the prototype stage but the Heinz ‘Beanzawave’ looks like it would work with Heinz’s prepacked Snap pots. Enough for beans on toast- perhaps there’s be a USB powered toaster to match one day? The microwave itself measures 7.4 inches by 6.2 inches by 5.9 inches. I’m not great with visualising the size, but does that sound big enough to double up for heating cups of hot chocolate to anyone else? I’m sure you could make other things in it than beans anyway- very small jacket potatoes perhaps? If you could, then I’m sure students would also find this gadget beneficial- why pay £1 a time at the student union when you can make your own hot chocolate during those nights trapped revising and essay writing in the library?

Designed by Gordon Andrews and Steven Frazer the only problem so far with this idea is that due to component costs it’d carry a hefty price tag- around the £100 mark. But the creators point out that just as mobile phone technology started out as expensive and has plummeted in cost, so too could the cost of the Heinz ‘Beanzawave’. If it ever crosses from prototype to reality of course.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
