CodeWeavers have just released a new version of their CrossOver product. CrossOver allows you to install many popular Windows productivity applications, plugins and games in OS X or Linux. CrossOver 8.0 includes support for Internet Explorer 7, Quicken 2009, Photoshop CS2 and performance upgrades for Microsoft Office 2007, particularly Outlook.

Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu released the latest version of their OS, 9.04. Improvements that we see in this release, according to Canonical are improved boot times, enhanced suspend and resume functionality, and better support for 3G and Wi-Fi switching, plus better 3G support.

Some time ago now, I bought a Dell SC440 Power Edge server. Not because I needed it per se, more because I wanted it. And as any gadget fan will tell you, thats the reason most of these purchases happen. When it arrived, I had to choose an OS. As WHS is too pricey for my liking, I turned to penguin land, and Ubuntu in particular.

Recently, it may have come to your attention that Microsoft and TomTom, the satnav maker, have reached a settlement over a patent dispute. The dispute revolves around the FAT file system, and it’s use in the TomTom’s Linux based OS. Microsoft said that the use of this file system infringed their patent, and so to court.
