As we approach the end of 2009 let us whisk back quickly in history to the end of 2007. Just two years ago Asus launched the Eee PC 700 and 701 and started the netbook revolution. Previously the PC industry had been moving ahead with only one aim, bigger and bigger, faster and faster. Then Asus realised that you don’t need a dual core processor with 4GB of memory to read your email. And so they launched the small 7 inch screen Eee PC range and started a revolution. But now the same “bigger and faster” disease has hit the netbook and new devices like the fabled Apple Tablet could take their place.

If Apple has a new product waiting in the sidelines they are keeping very quiet about it. But that is normal for Apple, they are fanatical about keeping product developments secret. But equally as frenzied are the Apple rumour mongers and they are saying that something big is coming. It has been reported, by the FT, that Apple have booked the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco for several days in late January. The question is why?

While everyone was predicting and pontificating about Apple releasing a Tablet this month (which they didn’t but they probably will in February) Microsoft have been secretly working on their own tablet. Called Courier it it is more than a tablet, it has two screens hinged in the middle and looks more like a traditional book or filofax (remember those) than a tablet.

As we reported a few days ago, Apple are planning on launching a touchscreen tablet this year similar to the iPod and iPhone but on a larger scale (with a 10″ screen) and with new interactive booklets, sleeve notes and other interactive features to boast album downloads.
