Toshiba has become the latest player in the growing and lucrative netbook arena, with its new NB100 mini laptop. Weighing in at under a kilo, the NB100 features an 8.9in widescreen TruBrite display offering 1024×600 resolution and conserves power through LED backlighting. Great news after the recent increase in the price of electricity, though the battery life lasts at the pretty standard netbook time of just under 4 hours.

The NB100 is powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom chip, and thoughtfully comes with either Linux Ubuntu 8.04 or Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. For those of you with more photos than a modeling agency, there is a hard disk drive of up to 120GB and up to 1GB RAM.

Connectivity wise, it offers Wi-Fi, a 10/100 Ethernet port, 3 USB ports and an integrated 0.3MP webcam. Toshiba has even incorporated its clever Sleep-and-Charge technology, which continues charging your plethora of USB gadgets even when the NB100 is in sleep mode.

Due out next month in black, silver and gold (!?!?) options, it is expected to retail for £260.
