This world-first gadget is compact, yet durable. It is waterproof, to a depth of 1 metre for up to 30 minutes and will operate in temperatures between -40 degrees to 85 degrees and altitudes of -300 to 21,300 feet.

The Spot GPS costs £149 and requires a further yearly subscription of £80. For an extra £30 a year, you can also use the Track Progress facility. This will send your GPS location to your Spot account every ten minutes for twenty four hours. This enables your contacts to follow your progress in real-time and also saves your route for you to view at a later date.
