25,000 music & video downloads coming to PS3 this summer

VidZone has just announced that ever-patient PS3 owners will soon be able to access its database of 25,000 music and videos directly from the PS3’s XMB.

vidzoneps3The service from London based VidZone will allow users to launch directly from the Xross Media Bar and will provide access to that huge catalogue of music and music videos, all at no cost. Instead of charging PS3 users the service is ad-funded and well established within the industry with the support of Sony BMG, EMI and a whole host of indy labels.

“VidZone is not just about giving music fans access to thousands of music videos, but offering a completely interactive and personalised music experience,” said VidZone’s Michael Russo, in a statement to GI.biz.

PS3 owners will be able to play, fast forward, pause and rewind videos using either their PS3 or PSP and the service also allows for the building of a video library as well as playlist functionality.

Not content with providing thousands of hit artist’s music videos absolutely gratis, VidZone will also be making interviews and behind the scenes footage available too.

At the time of writing, and launch later in the summer, the service will only be available UK, Ireland, France, Italy, German, Spain and Australia, due to licensing we’d imagine.

This is good news indeed, in fact any extra content for the PS3 is a good thing as we’re still finding the Playstation Store a little lacking….

So, what do you need to do to get this wealth of content? Nothing, just wait until “sometime this summer” and it will magically appear on your XMB.
