T-Mobile First to Offer Free Ad-funded Games

December 2nd, 2008 saw T-Mobile have become the first operator in the UK to offer free games.  The games are funded by advertising and will be hosted and managed by Digistores, the digital ad-funded entertainment experts.  Amongst the list of advertisers is Paramount Pictures.

Poker Million II is already available for free download and games such as IQ Booster, Pro-Bowling, Poor Star and Einstein’s Brain game are all scheduled to appear in the coming weeks.

Games are available to customers who subscribe to T-Mobile’s web’n’walk service and customer.  There is no limitations on the number of games that can be downloaded, or how many times games can be played.

Digistores service will only offer games that are compatible with customer’s handsets by automatically detecting what will and will not work on individual phones.

So, about these ads… well in exchange for a free game with no hidden costs, users will have to watch two full-screen interactive adverts before the game and two after the game has finished.

Digistores are “delighted to be working with T-Mobile on this innovative project” and T-Mobile say “the launch of ad-funded games further strengthens T-Mobile’s mobile gaming offering to consumers”.

I might be missing something here, but I have to say that T-Mobile are making a silly claim here. How can they be the first to do this.

I’ve been downloading free games from my iphone for a while now and they contain ads too.

Well then, very silly indeed as it’s in a press release on their website!
