Assisted GPS to be Built into Sim Cards
Sagem Orga have partnered with BlueSky Positioning to integrate A-GPS technology into a traditional SIM card. This development is certainly a step forward as it could mean that in the not so distant future we could see all phones with GPS functionality.
It’s great news that it will become commercially available soon, as it would mean that the GPS SIM card will be targeted at the more lower end or older handsets which don’t have GPS already included in their functionality.
However, cool as it may seem I am already a little sceptical as to what impact this will have on the lower end or older handsets in terms on their battery life and also whether the colour displays would be of a high enough resolution to allow the user to read the GPS.
Don’t get me wrong, I am all for the advancements of new and exciting technological developments but I think it is still a long way off to get the ultimate gadget stamp of approval.
