A new console from Sony and Microsoft is overdue. Since the five year mark, we've seen rumours swirling around about next gen consoles but so far nothing has materialised. Since the Kinect 2 has been announced the race is officially on but who's going for silver medal and when are they going to make an announcement? It could be next year when we see some news or it could be another five years from now. At the end of the day no one was any idea whatsoever. But last week, an unnamed source told gaming publication Develop that “Microsoft is rushing to make an 'Xbox 720” announcement at E3 in a bid to steal Nintendo’s thunder.
On the other hand EA has ardently denied reports that it’s already in possession of Xbox 720 hardware. EA called the claims “total fabrication – 100 percent not true.” But could they be lying to keep the hardware top secret? M2 Research analyst Billy Pidgeon claims that announcing a 360 successor in 2012 certainly isn’t out of the question.
Speaking to IndustryGamers, he said- “While Xbox 360 has peaked in some respects, particularly in North America, the system is still selling strongly and penetration potential remains – in Europe overall, and in the young end of enthusiasts as well as the mass market for an extended back half of this cycle."
He continued, “It’s in a vendor’s best interests to maintain a system’s viability as long as possible,” he added. “On the other hand, should Xbox 360 hardware sales begin to drop off dramatically in Q4, or early in 2012 Microsoft will likely announce launch of a new system at E3 next year.”
So what do you think will we see an announcement in in 2012? I think there’s a strong possibility
