Fling: The Analog Stick For The iPad

If you’re an iPad gamer, you may notice that using a touchscreen joystick can be a bit of a frustrating experience. Well Ten One Design have come up with an interesting solution to the problem with their Fling game controller for the iPad which is set to be announced at CES tomorrow.

The Fling is basically an attachable analog stick for iPad gaming which uses a spiral design which always brings the peripheral back to the middle if let go of. The spiral is transparent which is intended to be almost rendered invisible when the iPad’s backlight is on so you can still see as much detail on your screen as you would using your thumbs. Fling is attached to the iPad uses two suction cups which attach to the black rim around the screen and effectively keeps the player’s thumbs in position, which can help truly hardcore gamers as precise with their controls as possible. Also, as an added bonus you will likely be leaving less thumb smudges on your nice touchscreen (although the suction cups may take away that joy).

Ten One Design personally recommend the Fling to people who play or want to play; Meteor Blitz, Across Age, Super Megaworm, and “Tons of other RPG and FPS titles”. It seems having two joysticks isn’t really worth it because of the lack of games, although an avid geometry wars fan may appreciate it.

Unfortunately, it seems you will likely want to be a very dedicated iPad gamer if you’re intending to get this peripheral as this accessory isn’t exactly cheap. For the Fling controller you can say goodbye to $24.95 (£16 approx.) and if you want a two pack for twin stick gaming you can get one for $38 (£24). This is an accessory for an Apple device we’re talking about here though so I can’t say that anyone should be surprised. To see the Fling in action, check out the video link below.
