Cyberworld may be busy speculating about Facebook e-mail client, but there is yet another e-mail program popping up. Alas, thisclient is from hapless AOL. Once a celebrated internet firm, AOL is now revamping itself and is working on a "Project Phoenix". The project is currently limited to select users but the beta site will be available for public access next year.
AOL is working to make its e-mail program more conducive for quick e-mail, IM or text. The new program also lets users send quick and short reply from the inbox page itself, without requiring the message to be clicked first. You can also shuffle between different open e-mails and see the thumbnails of attached photos. AOL e-mail also allows for integration with Yahoo, Google and MSN e-mail accounts. It is also likely to offer same convergence with social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter in the future.
Yahoo has reported the email service to be a bit sluggish, although AOL has claimed it to be twice faster than Gmail. Project Phoenix also has a distinct feature of being ad-free. AOL is reportedly looking for alternate methods of revenue generation as the company considers the current ad-model to be user unfriendly. So far, things sound neat. We will let you know when the project enters the public domain. Keep watching this space.
