Steve Jobs Accused of Looking to Bypass the Web by Mozilla Director

Firefox Director Mike Beltzner has spoken out against Apple in a tweet regarding their new Mac App Store. Beltzner posted a tweet wondering "when Apple will stop shipping" saying that Jobs is "looking to bypass the web"

The Twitter outburst seems to be related to Apple's idea of packaging the internet into neatly bounded apps, as well as their questionable guidelines related to functionality and stability on what can be put through the service (they reject beta, demo, trial and test apps, as well as reject something with a bug). This is something which would especially bother Firefox due to its frequent beta tests and releases.

In attempting to heat things up a little more Beltzner posted later asking for an Apple Web Developer to look at a certain Mozilla bug (with a link to the problems around going on apple.com using Firefox).

However, it seems a retalitation from Apple states that it's a case of paranoia around the possibility that future versions of Firefox would not be available on Mac OS X 10.7 (which Beltner denies).

Is Apple really trying to bypass the web? Well, I guess if Apple remain as closed off as they are, it could be a possibility.

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
