Amazon is getting all gamey on us. Once they were a humble website for people who were scared of Ebay or wanted cheap books. They slammed into the gadget industry with the Kindle which is doing extremely well in the E-reading market and with its wi/fi and free 3G it's not just a great Ebook but a decent way to browse on the go.
Now, no one thinks Amazon are going to try and make the next 'iPad killer.' The reason the kindle does so well is because it is perfectly suited to its role.; cheap, efficient E-reading with no unnecessary clutter.
But they do have ambitions for a dual-screen reader, (which seems the obvious step up from single screen tablet devices for reading) and it seems they are interested in the ever expanding portable games market.
Amazon’s gaming credentials have shot up having just nabbed Microsoft’s Director of Game Platform Strategy, Andre Vrignaud. Who started with Microsoft in 2002 as Director of Xbox Live Platform Strategy and more recently helped manage Microsoft’s overall gaming platform strategy with a hand in figuring out how to roll out Xbox Live on Windows Phone 7.
Gaming on Kindle? Or a non-Kindle Amazon game device? Who knows, but by the sound of it we'll know soon
“Can't really talk about details at this point, but it'll become pretty evident soon enough"¦ and you all know where my passions lie,” he writes on his blog.
Also stating that he is: “obviously very intrigued about what Amazon is looking to do.”
