Google Phone, Nexus Two Details Leaked: Could it be a Blackberry Killer?

With only a couple of weeks into the Nexus One release in the US and also the fact that the Nexus One hasn’t even made its way into Europe, according to rumours from China, you are now casting your eyes on the Motorola Shadow which could in actual fact be the Google Nexus Two.

The Motorola Shadow/Nexus Two phone looks very similar to the Motorola DROID, and certainly fits into speculation when Motorola was also present at the same talk as the Google Executive, Andy Rubin a week ago, in which Google talked about their Nexus One and Motorola talked about the importance of Android and flagship devices. This prompted many to suggest at the event that Google would be looking to partner with other manufacturers such as Motorola for their handsets.

So if the rumours are true about the Motorola Shadow actually disguised at the Nexus Two, what do these leaked details suggest the Nexus Two phone will include? Well, apart from its QWERTY keyboard and large screen, many believe that the Nexus Two will also be ‘more palatable to the enterprise market’ or what we like to call the business users. It is rumoured that this will mean additional security features and be able to be managed by some sort of corporate server infrastructure like Exchange which puts it on par with RIM’s Blackberry platform.

So if the Google Nexus Two is expected to compete with the Blackberry and its Enterprise Server, which is the most secure and most manageable device on the planet for business, then it would need to put up a very good fight. There is hope that if Google wants to take a large share of Blackberry’s market then it will need to look at applying policies that restrict the types of apps a user can install, restrict the storage of data on unencrypted storage cards, have the ability to remotely wipe the device and more.

Although this is just rumours at the moment, there are many that believe that Google will have developed some sort of service that will allow IT managers to control the phone just as they can control the PC, however if Google decides to opt against this then this will mean it is yet another device the Blackberry RIM sweeps the floor of.

Do you think the rumours are true? Is it likely that Google will be able to push the boundaries and offer a phone that will compete with the RIM? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think?

  • I think any maker has the ability of pushing those boundaries, it all lies within how they execute those ideas. I’m writing this reply with my BB Storm 2, but I am in no way biased. It would definitely be interesting to see if the rumors are true, and how motorola goes about the new device.

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
